In December 2017, I was able to have a 20 minute interview with Rick Bell Rick regularly interviews writers on the Radio Internet program, TOGInet. We discussed Focus on Survival and why I wrote it. The interview is in the Media section on this site. It gives a lot of background on why I wrote the book and the lessons learned from Ben and Em’s experiences during the war. This interview was aired throughout the United Kingdom and South Africa in January and then aired in Australia around the beginning of February. It was also featured in the New York Review of Books in the December 7 issue, along with a number of other recently published books.
I had a very successful launch of my books in Katoomba during October, with 65 people in attendance. The feedback has been excellent and I would encourage all to post their response to the book here at my website. In November, we held a book review in Adelaide, which was also equally successful.
I will add a few reviews given over the past months, to encourage new or prospective readers to also read this fascinating true story of courage and resilience. Many felt as I always have, that Ben and Em’s story is truly inspiring.
For now I will add just one. This lovely lady was very much instrumental in encouraging me to begin writing my story. Her name is Helen Wilson, her letter wrote, in part:
“How wonderful to see your book i print and how proud you must justly feel. You were the right person to entrust this precious story to share. You touch the reader at so many levels, as they easily feel the life in such awful times, as well as the delicacy and robustness of true love. The humour eases the absolute horror we sense through your words, as you weave a story that depicts the worth of strong family values and integrity. Congratulations Julie!
With respect and love, Helen Wilson
